La Boca, Camaguey, Cuba

This is an amazing beach-town an hour away from Santa Lucia in Cuba, in the province of Camaguey. I spent many summers at this incredible place, fishing, scubadiving, snorkeling, and enjoying the amazing views each morning from my bedroom and under the ocean. Fishers from the area who knew me already would knock on my window at 6am to go check the fishing nets...Great times!!! If you are passionate about scubadiving I would recommend you to visit this place. It has beautiful reefs, and even a sunken ship...Here is a quick video of the area...By the way, if you are interested in feeding sharks this is the place to go :)

What is the difference between snorkeling and scubadiving?

Snorkeling doesn't require that you wear tanks and other equipment like regulators. Snorkelers stay on the surface, allowing you to breathe with your face down, and free dive to see the marine life. Scuba diving allows you to breathe underwater, diving several feet in depth.

A team of bold technical divers with the help of rebreathers carried out 16 amazing trimix dives to a depth of 300 ft during May first week, 2012 in order to retrieve stolen gold believed to have been lost in the Kuda Maru shipwreck.

These dives were performed on an area of the WWII shipwreck, which is considered to be of the Kuda Maru off the Cebu coast in Philippines.
AP Diving manufactured rebreathers were used by the team. Life support systems were manufactured by AP Diving for the dive vessel of James Cameron. This vessel was recently used to dive into the ocean’s deepest area.
The Kuda Maru is believed to have contained stolen gold that myths say is now guarded by the Japanese sailors’ ghosts who perished during WWII. The aim of the journey was to discover the shipwreck positively as the Kuda Maru.
According to Theuns van Niekerk, spokesperson of the expedition, they were unable to spend over 45 min at the bottom portion, because it was really deep and there was a need for long decompression times. It was difficult to find the name on the shipwreck’s hull, as the ship was present at a considerable depth and was corroded for 70 years. Wide HD video of the shipwreck was taken. For further identifications, a comparison will be made between the drawings and pictures of Kuda Maru and the wreck’s specific features, Theuns stated.
Scotty's Action Sports Network in Philippines sponsored this expedition. Damjan Perenic, Lou Holder, Patrice Laborda, Scott Livingston, and Theuns van Niekerk were the expedition divers.

There are many scuba diving classes for kids under 14 years of age. Being a senior citizen is not a problem either, provided you have a fair level of fitness and approval from a doctor. There are also training programs for the disabled so they too can enjoy the sport of scuba diving. What Does the Word S.C.U.B.A. Stand For: It is an acronym for Self-Contained-Underwater-Breathing-Apparatus. A scuba system allows autonomous diving (diving without an air line to the surface). The word also describes the sport of scuba diving. The term scuba originated during WWII. It was used to describe navy divers who used oxygen rebreathers to attack enemy ships from underwater.
